Why MBS and Why Now?

Recently a colleague told me that I sparked something in her. I hear this often after conversations with friends, colleagues, family, clients, and my team members. There is a flame in me, and one of my superpowers is my ability to leave sparks with those I touch. This is why Mastermind Business Services exists. I have a fire inside that burns to bring change, and I want to use this to ignite the flames of progression in other women.

MBS was a COVID baby. I began freelancing in January of 2020 as a virtual assistant, social media manager, and implementer roles. It started not out of a desire for growth or change but as a way to use my skills and generate extra income as we dove into our debt-free journey. Then the pandemic happened, and it felt like the whole world had stopped. My kids and I spent much of April doing the bare minimum, ordering take-out from local restaurants, and binge-watching everything on Netflix. Something about being full of fire makes being still tricky, and it wasn’t long before I was learning about becoming an OBM, a systems strategist, and expanding on my service offerings.

This is the stage when MBS as we know it was born, out of a fiery desire to change things. I had been working remotely at my last corporate job since March. Still, there was always that fear, that undertow of expectation, to get back into the office. Where would my kids go? Was it even safe to go back – I mean, we were Clorox wiping down our groceries at this point. So much happened, but my eyes were opened now, and I couldn’t look away. In September of 2020, I put in my notice. Then I left my secure and easy corporate job for the ever tricky life of full-time entrepreneurship.

Except I didn’t leap into a business that was ready to support me; I jumped into the unknown (insert Elsa meme here).

As a freelancer and entrepreneur, I have worn many hats, but I always return to the operational leader hat. Every other one I try on is either too tight and gives me a headache or is too big and covers my eyes. Operations is a big scary buzzword in the online space right now. That didn’t feel specific enough, so I journeyed to find my niche and my particular expertise.

This brought me into the Director of Operations certification and community. I gained indispensable knowledge and experience, but best of all is the lifelong friends that have come out of this. They gave me the space and support to rant, make mistakes, trust the wrong people, and call in the right ones. Entrepreneurship is lonely, and this community taught me I didn’t have to be alone on my island.

I have found my home in my skill set through almost two years of intense personal development and journey. Through more than a decade of experience, I have found the seat that my clients need me to own. This is why my agency’s offers are about the custom, the in-between, and the genuine support.

MBS is more than just a revenue stream for me; this business is a resource that allows me to increase my impact through my work with more clients and more team members. Always keeping in mind my big scary goal of starting my own non-profit foundation for young mothers.

Generating impact is an underlying theme in all I do. Becoming an entrepreneur has given me new avenues to create that impact I crave to see in the world. I dream about a world with little to no hurdles for the historically marginalized communities, where women are viewed as true equals in business and where the possibilities are endless.

I appreciate every one of my clients and team members. We have had a great ride through my first year of full-time entrepreneurship. I wouldn’t change a single thing (except maybe hire my own assistant sooner!).
